Women’s and Children’s:
The Women’s and Children’s research team covers five distinct specialty areas:
Some of our current work in Neonatal research is on deferred cord clamping, speed of increasing feeds, optical coherence tomography, treatment of persistent pulmonary hypertension of the newborn and an inotropes and infection. Forthcoming studies will look at infection and chronic lung disease, preventing neonatal bowel problems, reducing line infections and treating patent ductus arteriosus.
Children’s clinical research portfolio within Leicester’s Hospitals has grown significantly and continues to grow. This year will see the opening of a dedicated Children’s Research Facility which is a key strategic goal for us. We will continue to promote clinical research by collaborating with key allied specialties and supporting our key academic research leads working with local universities.

They have also successfully bid in collaboration with trusts in Cambridge and Nottingham to take part in the 100,000 Genome Project which is a major national study launched by Genomics England.
The group is keen, dedicated towards good quality patient care and always looking to expand our expertise in clinical research.
